Do no try to tour Beijing on your own. Great Wall is a long way from City. Traffic is horrendous. DO NOT rent a car. I stayed at the Renaissance Hotel, and it was walking distance from major mall. Weekend food vendors abound. Be sure and tour Hutong District. Summer Palace much nicer tour than Tienanmen Square. Forbidden City is huge, and you don't tour anything other than outdoor expanses and landmarks. Good tour guide gives good information but if you are under a time limit, choose...
You must must have your hotel address or destination written in local Chinese language. English is not easily understood & can frustrate you easily with their attitude of little patience.
We will be moving to Zhangjiagang soon, what is the best part of town to live in. We want to be close to shops, transportation, but we would really love a view of the city or parks or water.
I had the privelage of staying in Beijing for two weeks. What an amazing city! The highlight for me was the Great Wall. Don't go with any fancy tour bus. Take bus 877 from DeshengMen to Badaling non-stop for only RMB12.00(yes twelve!!)
What are the places to visit in China? How much it cost room in 3 stars hotel per day, How about the cost of food in china?
