Laurent  (with reference to History, Attractions) 11th Oct 2011

Hi, I will be in Sofia for a few days. I like history (old and recent). What museum, monuments to visit? Any idea of unusual places to see? Thanks for your advices.Laurent.

Sofia is my native city. Nice, Vienna type center, beautiful administrative buildings end of the 19th, beginning 20th century. Archaeological museum - ancient artefacts Roman, pre-historic, golden treasures, 120 years of existance. National historical museum - the oldest processed gold in Europe from the eolotic era; Thracian gold treasures like stars in the sky - priceless from 4th c. BC; Boyana church - UNESCO world heritage. A lot of good night clubs downtown with live music. parks and gardens, very green center. Vitosha mountain within 20 minutes 2225 m. high.

I am a native :) I can tell you that it is not the best city neither the cleanest or the safest - yet it is my birth town and I do like it anyway :D
The night life in Sofia is 24/7, there are a lot of restaurants with good food and a lot of shops /not all of them with good price though/
if you like cultural life - we have great history and great museums /not all r in sofia unfortunately :)/
the city is growing and i must say even i get surprised ;)

Lora 's tip about Varna, Bulgaria 18th Jul 2008

Varna is big, Varna is funny, Varna is historical, Varna is touristic, Varna is noisy, Varna is with amazing beach and weather... don't go there during the winter...the weather is great if you go in May-June...the beach is wonderful...the Sea garden is peaceful...you can see playing dolphins in the Dolphinarium...is wonderful... the prices are high - is famous place and most of the charter flights land here...there is a wide choice of hotels and restaurants...if you go to Varna don't miss the possibility to visit Golden Sands - a resort not so far away from Varna...Albena is another peaceful resort above Varna. The train station is really beautiful. Avoid to use taxi in the night - the taxi drivers are trying to trick any foreigner and ask him for more money. In general taxis there are really expensive - even more expensive than taxis in BARCELONA!

Went to Bulgaria for my 50th birthday we stayed in sunny beach. The beach was beautiful but i love to sea swim and could not do this as the sea is full of jelly fish although they are beautiful to look at i did not fancy swimming with them. The hotel Victory Palace was well placed right on the beach. We took a trip up to a village in the mountains and visited an old mans house who showed us how he makes wool on an old machine. We had a nice meal and plenty to drink. It was a good trip. I would go back to Bulgaria some time in the future

Andrzej 's tip about Nessebar, Bulgaria 8th Jan 2012

Dears,

I was there in june 2011. Nice town but typically "touristical" for me. It is worth one, two day stay but not more.
I was a couple of years ago in Constanca, Romania. Also "touristical" płace, but "younger" than Nessebar.

lovely place anyway, never boring, lot of seaagulls flying around, sandy beachs, warmy and windy, never too hot, lot of monuments to see, lot of shoping to do... etc food is great and chip, and conditories are just lovely
