riding should start with a rain and a breeze....
Brian  (with reference to Fun, Adventure) 1st Nov 2011

The crazy kid in me wants to tour through Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Burma (Mianmar) etc on one of those small 150cc bikes you see everyone riding in these areas. I thought it would be fun and a great adventure. Repairs and parts shouldnt be a problem as these bikes are everywhere.

Has anyone ever done this and wish to share their experiences.

Or would anyone like to come along for the adventure?!!?

Always, always wear a helmet and gloves, I always wear full protective gear no matter how hot it is - falling off at 30 mph/50kmh can remove enough skin to cause a long and painful death. Even 20 mph can wreck your life.

If you're planning a road trip in, say, Indo-China, use a bike that's commonly sold there. Otherwise, if it breaks, getting it fixed will be a nightmare. Get the right type of bike for the type of trip you're making, no matter how unfashionable or ugly it is :) For trans-Europe, for example, Hondas are everywhere and, from the figures, the most reliable. I would say BMW but IMO they're way overpriced and repairs even more so.

Many people recommend Harleys for road trips; I don't - the vibration becomes uncomfortable after a while & they're not as reliable as the marketing implies. IMO the suspension is horrible & they drink fuel. ~~

Choose your gear carefully for a road trip. E.g.: Don't get the tiniest tent you can. If you get to a campsite soaking wet you need room outside the inner tent to get out your wet gear, dry off & unpack etc.

motorcycles are dangerous, you have to be self controlled and your mind clear to act fast.
